MELLAH HEAVEN ONLY KNOWS

Mellah's lyrically astute tunes have captivated us for a long time here at TMR. Returning today with a pensive new cut, the seething sense of frustration felt on some of his previous works seems to evaporate on 'Heaven Only Knows'. Sonically softer as well, the contemplative piece consists simply of a subtle drum machine beat and Mellah's signature sliding guitar work, which compliments his hushed yet accomplished vocal melodies. Always one to see the bigger picture, Mellah explains: “It started life as a song about whether me and my partner at the time could find a way to stay together, but ended up as a broader question asking whether we could all find a way to cohabit together; if not in harmony then at least in some semblance of tolerance. The pandemic has felt like a crossroads; for me at least, it’s thrown everything up in the air, creating in equal measure an atmosphere of both anxiety and excitement when considering how it will all fall back down to earth again. ‘Heaven Only Knows’ is just asking, ‘how do we want it to look when / if it all lands?’” 'Heaven Only Knows' arrives alongside a create visual and will appear on Mellah's 333(Them) EP, due out via Plum Cuts on the 12th of November. -Holly Mullineaux
